Gudrun Aspelund, MD

Dr. Gudrun Aspelund obtained her MD at the University of Iceland in 1996 and subsequently worked for two years as a house-officer at Landspitali University Hospital in Reykjavik, Iceland. Dr. Aspelund received her General Surgery training at Yale University School of Medicine/Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she also completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship. She then completed her fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, in 2007.

Dr. Aspelund joined the faculty of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, as Assistant Professor of Surgery in 2007. Her clinical interest is all general pediatric surgery, and in particular gastrointestinal diseases, neonatal anomalies and minimal access surgery.

Dr. Aspelund's academic interests are in the field of outcomes research. She is acquiring a Master's degree in Biostatistics with a concentration in Patient Oriented Research, in the Mailman School of Public Health/Columbia University, to further develop a career in clinical outcomes research.
